Culture and Science

Intern meeting Summer 2021

CIM2AS will provide Latinx students with opportunities to build on their cultural assets and skills. To do this, we will use cultural heritage and community knowledge to enhance classical ways of learning biology and chemistry. The theme of monarchs and milkweeds is already central to programs offered by the Latino Cultural Center that connect the theme of human im/migration and monarch migration. The Latino Cultural Center is creating a dialogue series to explore connections between Latinx students' diverse ethnic identities and their identities as scientists. Dialogues are also being created for instructors to assist in their work on developing culturally-informed learning modules.
